Overview of U9 to U19 Competitive Programs
Mankato United Soccer Club (MUSC) participates in traveling leagues organized by the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) and Southern Minnesota Soccer League (SMSL). MYSA and SMSL offer Spring/Summer and Fall leagues for players 9U through 19U.
The competitive program focuses on individual and team excellence and provides opportunities for players to learn advanced soccer concepts and skills, as well as teamwork, self-discipline, honesty, generosity, and self-confidence. Players must be willing to sacrifice and work together for the good of their team and accept that they might receive unequal playing time based on their differing abilities to contribute to team needs.
Age Groups
- Spring/Summer: 9U-19U Boys and Girls
- Fall: 9U-14U Boys and Girls
Coaches
- 9U-12U teams must have at least one volunteer Coach. If a volunteer is not found for the team, families will be required to split the cost of hiring a paid Coach. For Summer 2021, the Club will have Trainers to assist Coaches with technical assistance.
- 13U-19U are provided with a Club-paid Head Coach.
Team Formation:
- Registration with Mankato United Soccer does not guarantee any player a spot on a specific team or with a specific coach, family member, or friend.
- Teams will be built based on evaluations done by the MUSC Director of Coaching and other MUSC Board Members involved with evaluations and team formation.
- Evaluations are completed throughout the soccer year for players already participating in competitive league play. Evaluations include winter training, league games, and practices.
- Registration for scheduled evaluations for players not already participating in the competitive league will be posted on the MUSC website and Facebook page prior to the start of the season evaluations being completed.
- Teams will be formed shortly after registration closes.
- Players will be notified as soon as their team roster is finalized.
Training:
- Training days and times will be announced after registration based on field and coach availability.
- Winter training for spring/summer teams is held at the MSU All Sports Dome on Sunday evenings beginning in January.
Uniform Kits:
Beginning in 2027, MUSC will work with a MN-based company and uniform ordering will be streamlined through their digital system.
Note: All uniform vendors have a few-week turnaround time, so players must order when they receive the message.
Competitive Team Commitment
Playing competitive soccer has several components to the financial commitment.
