Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What if I accept an assignment but then something comes up?

A: Email the Referee Assignor ASAP at jescorza@musc.playmetrics.com so we can find a replacement referee. A referee with a habit of turning back games or not showing for games may be offered fewer games.

Q: How does the assigning work?

A: When assignors go to assign games, the system automatically populates a list of the refs marked available for that specific date. Assignments are done at random between the available refs.

Q: How will I be notified that I am assigned a game?

A: You will be notified via email when you are assigned to a game. The email address that was provided when your account was created is the email address on file. If you would like the notifications to go to another email and/or a phone as a text message, you can add those to your Game Officials account.

Q: What happens if I don’t accept the assignment on Game Officials?

A: If you haven’t accepted the assignment on Game Officials by 3-4 days before the assignment (game) day, it will be reassigned to another ref. Game Officials automatically sends out reminder emails about assignments.

b How far in advance are games assigned?

b Typically, refs are assigned 10-14 days before the game date. The first two weekends of games may be assigned 7-8 days before game day, giving the assignors enough time to create accounts for new refs and work out any issues for refs with an account from previous years.

Q: How many games will each JR Ref be assigned?

A: MUSC will try to assign games equitably between junior referees, but depends on a referee’s availability. The more dates marked available, the more likely games will be assigned. Mankato United rec soccer has two seasons: Summer (May-June) and Fall (September-October). Junior Referees will have the opportunity to officiate for both seasons.

Q: What time should I arrive for my assignment?

A: Refs must arrive 20-30 minutes before the assigned game time. For example, if the game time is 5:15 pm, refs need to arrive no later than 4:55PM.

Q: Where do I check in for my game assignment?

A: 7/8U games are played at the Good Shepard fields. 9/10U games are played at the Caswell Complex. ALL refs, no matter the game’s age group, check in with a Rec Coordinator at Good Shepard Fields near the equipment shed. After check in, you will be given your field assignment. You must check in with a Rec Coordinator at Good Shepard before your assignment so we know the game is covered and you completed your ref assignment.
